In 2024, life had me feeling wrecked, but then I took a class in Fort Collins with master quilter David Taylor, three dear friends, and a French bakery dangerously close by. Between the crepes, the color lessons, and David’s hilarious teaching, I walked away revived and ready to stitch.
“Oculus” is turned-edge appliqué at its finest: 200+ pieces of fabric, no paint, no shortcuts, just precision and patience. What began as an obsession with photographing pelicans in La Jolla turned into this bird of prey – sharp-eyed, wings poised, and scanning for the catch.
This quilt holds no fish in its pouch, but plenty of grit, color, and story stitched into every feather.
