The phoenix is my spirit animal, and it’s the reason I stumbled into quilting in the first place. What started as a search for an iron-on phoenix turned into a three-day design binge that lit a fire under my 55th birthday weekend.
“Up” is built with more than 400 pieces of fabric using turned-edge appliqué – no paint, no pen, no shortcuts. Just pure fabric magic, even down to the eye. Look closely and you’ll spot skulls at the bottom, timepieces at the top, and a fiery bird rising through it all. The timepieces? My personal lawyer hell of billing every minute. The phoenix? My reminder that there’s always hope, always a way out, always an “Up.”
This quilt hangs where I see it every day, lifting me like only a phoenix can.
