One Badass Bird

This beast took 120 hours just to design—and that’s before stitching even began. Made with foundation paper piecing (a technique as brutal as it sounds), every tiny scrap of fabric had to lock into place with surgical precision. Four mega sections. Dozens of segments. Hundreds of itty-bitty pieces, some smaller than a fingertip.

Was it worth the pain? Absolutely. This rooster strutted its way to First Place at the 2023 Colorado State Fair and will soon star in a book by my pattern teacher, Dana Jones. The design isn’t random either; I’m a Rooster in the Chinese Zodiac, known for confidence, grit, and a stubborn streak that fits this quilt perfectly.
